Descricão e Informacões AdicionaisParasitoids use herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) to locate their hosts. However, there are few studies showing the mechanism involved in the attraction of natural enemies to them. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of soybean (cv Dowling), which were induced after injury caused by Euschistus heros (Hemiptera:Pentatomidae), in the searching behavior of egg parasitoid Telenomus podisi (Hymenoptera:Scelionidae). From the identified VOCs, (E,E)-α-farnesene, methyl salicylate, (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate and (E)-2-octen-1-ol were prepared from standards at different concentrations (10-6M to 10-1M) and combinations, being tested in a double-choice olfactometer (type Y). Telenomus podisi responded preferentially only to (E,E)-α-farnesene at 1x10-5 M when tested individually and compared to hexane, and did not respond when combinations of these compounds were tested. However, the parasitoids remained more time in the arm with the mixture containing (E,E)-α-farnesene + methyl salicylate 1x10-5 M compared to the arm containing hexane. The results suggest that (E,E)-α-farnesene and methyl salicylate might be important to T. podisi to recognize the presence of stink bugs in the plant, and also that minor components from soybean plants are used by this parasitoid to locate their host, since T. podisi preferred volatiles emitted by herbivory-damaged soybean plants when contrasted with (E,E)-α-farnesene alone.
