Descricão e Informacões Adicionais | Elections to the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait took place on 2 February 2012. These were the sixth elections since the National Assembly was reinstated following the Iraqi occupation. The elections process officially began on 6th December 2011 when, in line with the Constitution, the Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah dissolved parliament and called for new elections. Citizens voted to appoint the 50 elected members of the National Assembly for a four-year term. Women have been entitled to vote and run for the parliament since May 2006 and first participated in June 2006. The first female MPs were elected in 2009, when four were elected in to the National Assembly. |
