Descrição e Informações AdicionaisStink bugs are the most important pests of soybean in Brazil and other countries of South America. These insects form a complex, with species composition and abundance varying between regions. T. perditor is part of the stink bug complex and may be found in others crops as wheat and sorghum. As part of our ongoing studies of semiochemicals of economically important stink bugs in Brazil, we identified the pheromone of T. perditor as methyl (E2,Z4,Z6)-decatrienoate. In this work, we present results of field studies on the efficiency of pheromone traps in monitoring T. perditor. Traps represented two-liter transparent plastic bottles of soft drinks baited with rubber septa impregnated with one of three treatments: 1- (E2,Z4,Z6)-10:COOMe, non-protected, 2- (E2,Z4,Z6)-10:COOMe, protected from direct sunlight in standard PVC plumbing pipes (65 mm x 17 mm, I.D.) to protect from direct sunlight, and 3- (E2,E4,Z6)-10:COOMe, the pheromone of another stink bug, Plautia stali. The latter compound was included in the test since it can presumably form (E2,Z4,Z6)-10:COOMe if exposed to sunlight. Traps with rubber septa treated with ether were used as control. Rubber septa were replaced with fresh ones every 7 days. One experiment was performed in a soybean field in the middle reproductive stage of the crop (R3) when a stable stink bug population was established. Four traps, one of each treatment, were randomly distributed in a transect along the field. Four transects were establish with a total of four repetitions per treatment. Traps were monitored twice a week, and to test the efficiency of trapping, the area was alternatively monitored by the sampling cloth technique. Traps baited with (E2,Z4,Z6)-10:COOMe, protected and non-protected, were more efficient in capturing T. perditor than traps baited with (E2,E4,Z6)-10:COOMe and control traps. Additionally, traps baited with the sex pheromone captured a significantly higher number of insects than sampling cloth technique and some a
