Descricão e Informacões Adicionais(en)	This study draws on the theories of communication and crisis, to investigate the supposed effects of the media, from the perspective of Critical Theory, in the imaginary society of Jose Saramago, in his book "Blindness". In an attempt to analyze the crisis called `white blindness` - in which, overnight, people become blind from a blindness that is not black, but white - this study seeks to discover the reason for this crisis and examine the measures taken in the face of this crisis, by reviewing the literature on communication and crises and cultural industries, confronting the argument that white blindness is caused by excess as a whole, and overcommunication / light - causing indifference. From this observation, we asked how this impacts on how we interact with crises and with others, and how this crisis can be overcome in the distance education.
