| Descricão e Informacões Adicionais(en) | Focusing on urban environmental problems, this article, while proposing a theoretical framework to handle urban environmental governance, also offers an approach to recognizing ways for an appropriate assessment of cities sustainability. The discussions on environmental governance carried out throughout the last decades, although presenting converging ideas and some successful examples are still to convey a definitive framework as a north to be followed and consolidated. The effective participation of the main social actors, governments, small and big companies, and the society as a whole, in the design and implementation of public policies is the issue to be accomplished nowadays. Only by truly interaction and understanding of social needs and the sustainable use of common properties, can mankind get the better of our common future . |
