| Descricão e Informacões Adicionais(en) | The study discusses current research on the etiology of crime in psychiatry andpsychology and the different instruments used for this purpose. It is arguedthat these areas of research present resonances of the deterministic logic of thePositivist School of Criminology and of the eugenicist rationality of the first halfof the 20th century. The historical narrative proposed here seeks to contributeto a reflection on the reification of crime and the use of devices for evaluating thebody and the psyche. The study investigated the discourses on criminality andabnormality in the Boletim de Eugenia (1929-1932), exploring the hypothesisof the re-updating of eugenicist thinking in the current onslaught of supposedcriminological knowledge. The study concludes that the attempts to capturepsychology, as a device of power, make explicit the desire for normalizationincorporated in the predictive logic of crime.Keywords: eugenics; criminal psychology; criminality; abnormality. |
