This paper presents an analysis of references and a case study of an influence of Organizational Memory in Communities of Practice - CoP as a competitive factor in organizations. It starts appraising and analyzing the role of Organizational Memory in knowledge management, the vision of communities of practice and its interactions within the organizations. It shows how the idea of building an organizational memory has a basic importance in the success organizations which deals with the edge of technology. The survey reflects the visibility of all employees and contractors, including its leaders identifying the main factors of competitive advantage demonstrating its perceptions of impact on the business. The results show the CoPs potential for business and competitive advantage, because they expand the performance capacity of project teams. It?s concluded that CoPs are key elements to building the social capital that serves to enable knowledge sharing and to promote innovation. Key Words: Knowledge management. Organizational memory.
